Hands on with Gigabyte’s M912
Laptop Magazine’s Joanna Stern stopped by Gigabyte’s booth and played around with the M912 for a bit. She though the Acer Aspire One was one of the best looking netbooks, but the M912 impressed her even more. It was shown in white, black, brown, pink, red, and a “striking multi-colored, pop-art design” shells:
Joanna loved the touch screen on the M912. It was very responsive and worked with her finger or the provided stylus that lives up in in the top left corner of the screen. However the hinge was a little shaky and made some little squeaks when turned.
She didn’t mention how much RAM the models she test had, but they probably had 1GB. They were all using the 1.6Ghz Atom processor which booted Vista in about 55 seconds. That’s slower than the MSI Wind, but faster than the HP Mini-Note.
Overall it looks like the Gigabyte M912 is a serious contender in the netbook war. If they can keep the price below $600 and get a sturdier hinge the M912 will be very popular.

Anyword on the release date and pricing yet? Trying to decide between this and the Aspire One..
